Additive Manufacturing of Hard Magnetic Passive Shims to Increase Field Homogeneity of a Halbach Magnet

Obtaining a highly homogeneous magnetic field is desired for field-controlled applications. For example, the resolution of analysis methods can be improved by generating stronger and more over region interest (ROI). A set 3D-printed passive shims fabricated using additive manufacturing to improve homogeneity Halbach magnet assembly. The feedstock custom acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)-hard composite filament filled with 60% wt. isotropic NdFeB. Additionally, method investigating remanence developed validated. result reveals good agreement between new existing measurement techniques permanent magnets. It also shown that procedure has negligible effects on properties. Performing parametric study rectangular ROI, an optimized shim configuration achieved. In configuration, average norm flux density, Bnorm, increased 13% and, importantly, 43% increase in uniformity obtained. These results highlight great potential freeform manufacturing, namely, tailor properties structures.
